Is it legal to hunt with only a temporary ID some a**hole stole my wallet

I have a 4th season elk tag. and likely will only have the temporary license when we go.

I think you only need to be in possession of your tag or hunting license and hunter education card (unless verified is on your tag). Picture ID is not required, that is all I carry and when i've been stopped in the field the officer has never asked for picture ID. I generally leave my wallet at home so I dont' lose it in the field.

I've been so wrapped up in current issues, I failed to see your post.
As for the law, the law says you must carry an ID at all times. A temporary ID is that.
Unfortunately, it would be a judgment call by the officer that confronts you, if any.
Best case scenario would be to not only have your tag and temp. ID, but also some proof of residence-an electric bill, gas bill, or, of course, a voter registration card.
I asked my neighbor two doors down, Grant, who is a DOW field officer, and that's what his opinion is, so it's probably pretty accurate.

Where does the law state that you must have an ID? I can't find it anywhere. I don't trust the field officers to know the law. See the post about the magazine limit. Hell, I remember asking at the HQ about using NFA hunting stuff and they could not answer my questions without quite a delay.

I'm not a lawyer, but I did stay at a Holiday Inn Express last night....

It is my understanding that a STATE ISSUED temporary ID, whether it be a Driver's License, or just a State ID card, carries the same weight as a "permanent" state issued form of identification - and it must be honored by law enforcement as such (state level on down - does not apply to the Feds). We honored them on my base (AF) when I played cop - BUT we also required another form of photo identification.

With this said, a valid photo ID of some sort is always a good thing to have on your person. While it may not necessarily be "required", it could sure save a lot of time and questions to verify your identity, should a situation come to that.
