Augason Farms?

I don't post here much but I do lurk and read.I saw a post about Augason Farms powdered cheese recently so I decided to do a little research.I could not find it locally even in the stores reported to have it.Then I found out Walmart will ship with no cost for orders over $50.00 dollars and no tax plus I don't have to go anywhere.I just received my order yesterday of 4 cheeses,2 potatoe gems,1 dry milk,1 chopped onion and 1 butter powder.The powdered cheese is not bad,tried some tonight.The reason for so many cheese's is I have a lot of pasta stored along with tomato paste but I feel cheese would liven things up or at least change it a little.I was planning on sampling the others but hate to open a good sealed can for that reason.The powdered butter I feel must be sampled though.This would be great if its what it suppose to be.They also have powdered honey which catches my attention but also makes me wonder how good could it be.So I thought I would post here to see if anyone eles has tried any of these products and their thoughts.Thanks

I bought the powdered honey but haven't opened it yet. I'm a lot of help, huh?

I'm confused though - no tax? How is that possible?

Here's the copied and pasted portion from tonight's order . It surprised me too.Well crap,it showed in the preview post.Anyway.on the online bank it says charged to walmart in Bentonville Ark.Out of state maybe?It was done on Walmart.com.

it's billed to the main office, / distribution area, not your local store.

I'm about done with the dried red/green peppers. The potato dices are more or less small pieces of dried potato. They are great for hash browns, side dishes and quick filler for stews. Same for the peppers. The dried onions , i suggest you half what ever you want to use, if not by 1/4.

We order direct from augason as they offer 2 size portions. AND they deliver to your door.

I just recently tried the potato gems and would say they are no different than instant mashed potatoes that you buy in the box, but maybe a little saltier. Oh, and they are round little pellets, not flakes. So you have to make sure you stir/add water until they all dissolve. I have used the milk for years, mainly for cooking/baking when I don't have fresh milk at home. I just mix up a small batch and it works great, I can't tell any difference in the finished recipe. The taste is different from fresh milk, when drinking it, but not too bad. I think it is better suited for cooking/baking. All in all, I think they serve the purpose if you are storing food and you need it in an emergency. I think the salt content in most of their stuff is too high to use on a regular basis. I have also tried the Cheesy Broccoli soup mix. Again, very similar to a dried soup package you would find in the store. Tasty, but salty.

ETA: Mixing the milk can be pain in the a**. It's similar to mixing protein powder for a shake, powder is very fine and sticky...and gets everywhere. I would suggest getting one of those cups designed to mix protein shakes, makes clean up a lot easier. If you use a blender, add water first and mix in the powder with a spoon a little before you start the blender.

I have a couple of cans of the cheese powder to go along with the cans of macaroni and rice from the LDS store. Though I have yet to try any yet.

I have to wonder about honey powder since archaeologists have found clay pots of honey in Egyptian tombs thousands of years old that was edible and even palatable. Seems like a better idea to buy jars of honey and keep them sealed until needed.

I was going to oven-can some honey, just haven't done it, The hydroscopic properties of the honey make it antibiotic and not susceptible to spoilage. Then I thought the glas gars are fragile and such that it would be hard to be mobile with a bunch of honey. STill might be worth a try to store it when Honey goes on sale in season.
