If I understand you correctly, you're trying to screw the double-ended bolt (stud) into the cast housing?
If this is the case, then what I'd suggest is that you thread on two nuts on the upper exposed thread and lock them together by tightening one against the other using two wrenches. Once these two nuts are locked together, you should be able to get a wrench on the top nut and screw the entire bolt assembly into the housing.
It's tough to explain the process using only words. If this doesn't make sense, let me know... I'll scrounge up some excess parts and pieces and take some pictures

Attachment 49597The best way to tighten the studs down without thread damage is to double nut the stud. Stack two nuts together and tighten said nuts together on to one another. Then use top nut to tighten the stud and reverse process to remove the nuts.
