Anybody can recommend an appraiser? Got hit recently and insurance lowball me on diminished value (obviously). So before I make a random call, any suggestion is appreciated.
2015 4runner, worth at least 31k, ~22k miles, cost ~$15k to fixe, curtain and side airbag deployed. Thanks
Can't you just look up vehicle values through NADA or KBB?
I did, I can't find an option for value post-accident. They only provide a value for current market on vehicle that's never been in an accident I think.

Isn't the point of valuation pre-accident to say what the "totaled" value was, or what the accidental damage caused in terms of value loss?
Well, diminished value is when your vehicle is involved in an accident and its not your fault, you're entitled in compensation for the loss of value. Even if the vehicle is fixed "like new" it was still involved in an accident, the value will go down. Anyone buying a used vehicle will look at a Carfax for vehicle history, especially dealer, and see in my case that airbag has deployed, the dealer will lowball me or a potential buyer will not even consider buying a vehicle with airbag deployed, I know I wouldn't. Even if they do, they'll lowball the price. If I'm wrong, maybe someone could chime in. No one wants to be in an accident, I didn't ask for it. Waste of time.

There is no such thing as a specific type of appraiser for diminished value. Your options are to refuse the settlement amount and try to negotiate for more, or try to take that portion of the settlement to appraisal. If you're not far off from what you feel you are owed (extremely subjective), negotiating is likely your best bet. If you chose appraisal, then you and the insurance company will each hire an independent appraiser to value the depreciation. Your results will range from some companies being very lenient and accepting your appraiser's figure, to the insurance company telling you that you can prove how much value you'll lose in a sale by selling the vehicle and providing direct evidence of how much you lost. Either way, keep in mind that no one really uses KBB or NADA to value vehicles anymore, and dealership or private party ads are largely ignored altogether. It's been awhile since I've been in that industry, so take this advice with a grain of salt. Good luck.

Yes, I'm going through their insurance, I'm trying to negotiate, they are being vague. Like Irving said, fairness is subjective, I feel the amount is unreasonable. I asked them for a number they go off of and didn't give it. Typical insurance I guess.
