Estwing 16" campers axe as a throwing hatchet?

I used to be real good with my old carpenter hatchet. That hatchet is long gone, and I haven't thrown one in a decade.

My wife expressed some interest, so I was thinking about purchasing an Estwing 16" camp hatchet. It's heavy enough for a beginner, and should be plenty strong. A quick google search didn't get a ton of results on it, but enough to show it's a viable option for throwing.

The question is, have any of you thrown the Estwing 16" campers axe? Can you recommend a better option for a beginner?

Have a look at some of the Cold Steel hawks. They are pretty inexpensive and work well. The straight handle allows it to slide out of your hand easier, allowing better accuracy.

I throw an Estwing boys axe. It's pretty light and easy to stick. +1 on the Cold Steel offerings.

It is super simple to stick, very forgiving on distance. I also have two sizes of the trailhawk. The riflemans hawk is a little two heavy for throwing comfortably.

Either one. I have the second one and they are easy to throw, I’d bet the shortys are fine too. Make sure what your throwing at is soft. I cut logs and throw into the grain.
