Anyone bowhunting this upcoming season?
Anyone interested in building some arrows instead of having a shop do it? What about heavy arrows and high FOC?
Anyone interested in 3D range practice at Cheyenne Mountain, or at basic targets?

I would be interested in practicing at Cheyenne Mountain.
I would be interested in practicing at Cheyenne mountain, their 3D course is nice. Already set on my arrow/point choice though. Gold Tip hunter series with montec broadheads. Have done a great job for me.
Its always give and take with heavier arrows, but the newer smaller shafts help with most of the cons except the slower speed and more drop.
Definitely bow hunting this year. Used to put together my own arows..life got in the way. Now that the kids are geting older...kinda (3 and 7) we have been shooting a lot. My 7 year old is having a blast shooting his longbow mostly but i bought him a compound too. Learning the compound is a little too complicated for him.. going to take some practice.
COS guys - Let's definitely plan to get to Cheyenne Mountain's 3D course sometime in early June. Especially once tag results hit, we can gear which stations to concentrate on. I hope they've shifted some of the target's locations. There were a few that were guaranteed arrow busters if you boffed the shot. Not a fan of that, personally.
Yeah I did like how they put some right in front of a big boulder. Actually had one arrow that went thru the target and smacked the rock behind it as it had been shot too many times. On my way out they were replacing it. Bad luck I guess.
Just count on breaking your arrow if you miss.
If you want arrows, Archery Hut has done a great job fletching mine in the past. And with the shutdown they could probably use the business.
I have a ton of arrows. Roll my own. Cut, square, insert tune, bareshaft/nock tune, and then fletch once I have the bareshaft flying straight.
Currently running 100gr brass inserts and 125gr heads. Current weight is about 518gr and somewhere around 17% FOC. Experimenting with seeing how things are going to work with heavier heads. Current heaviest is 315gr single bevels. That would put me at about 708gr arrow. Ultimately it will come down to what bareshaft flies the best with a heavier field point. Who knows, maybe I’ll find my current build is best.
If anyone is interested in hand loading your own, let me know.
Did some BH flight testing/tuning today with some 200gr BH's (Iron Will 200gr, solid; Grizzlystik Samurai 200gr). It was fairly windy, so I'm not done since I'd like to really fine-tune everything in calmer conditions. But BH behavior was consistent out to 50 yards, which is where I'm drawing the line on a shot distance. I'll practice with field points at further distances.
Bow: PSE Xpedite at 26.5" DL and 60LB DW.
Sight: EZV (#11/260FPS insert)
Arrow: Black Eagle Carnivore 400 spine @ 26" (yes, I know I'm technically underspined, but they fly well and 340/300 spines aren't going to work without shimming the cams, due to a severe nock right behavior); standard insert.
Didn't take many pics, as I was more focused on getting done as soon as possible due to being in the blazing sun in Canon City.
The below pic was Iron Will and a 200gr FP at 30 yards. Fairly typical relationship between the FP and Iron Will BH. One round I thought I robinhooded the shaft with the BH cus the FP penetrated further through the channel created by the blades.

Below is the IW and GS Samurai (both on paper) at 40 yards, with the FP just off to the top left. Again, it was super windy and gusting randomly, so I'm not done with fine-tuning.

Didn't take any pics at 50 but again, both heads seemed to track well (and frankly were shooting better than the FP's at times). Was getting consistent hits on paper. I didn't find that either head shot worse for me than I can manage with field points.
Either way, I was very impressed with both broadheads. Once I get some calmer conditions, I suspect they will both tune well, with the IW doing better (due to less surface area). But, the Samurai held its own in the conditions. It flew a lot straighter than I thought it would, given the wind. I could probably fine-tune my zero at distance a hair right and up. Just didn't see the point in chasing my tail in the wind.
For a comparison reference, for those unfamiliar with these specific heads, here’s a 125 magnus buzzcut next to the two others.

I ended up running with 200gr IronWill and Cutthroats. The Grizzlystik just wasn’t as predictable at distance and I wasn’t excited about the aluminum ferrule.
In the end it didn’t matter, as I only had eyes on elk 2 days total and never had a shot opportunity.
