Actually looking for a friend.
A friend was working a suicide prevention hot line when a caller calls up very distraught. The end of the conversation was the caller pulling the trigger to his head. Needless to say it fucked her up.
Fast forward...there have been several shootings (within ear shoot) around her, in Aurora. This is making her stress even worse. To the point of debilitating.
Does anyone know of an inexpensive or free counselor that could listen/help in the Aurora area?

I’m afraid I don’t have a recommendation but I do have some advice. I had an incident at a job a few years ago and sought PTS help. It ended up going through workman’s comp. By the time I got an appointment weeks later I finally started to recover through my own support system. Suddenly I found myself digging everything back up and started to back slide. Then the counselor went on vacation and I wouldn’t see her again for three weeks. I didn’t bother. Then weeks later someone came to investigate my claim! My boss went to bat for me and told the guy he was not going to make me relive the event again.
Long story short is try to find someone who has been recommended if possible and don’t enter into a bureaucratic mess. Maybe a support group if your friend is up for that kind of thing.

The “Suicide Hotline” should have these services available to employees/former employees. Did they really expect every “intervention” to be successful? If they did that is delusional and negligent. To not offer counseling services is further negligence.
I would advise her to contact a couple of employment attorneys and also look into state employee resources.
Good point. Really sad, I can see where that would stick with you. I did some remodel for a lady (counsellor) who still works with people from Columbine and the Theater shootings who snap whenever a mass shooting in the news, I'll check with her.Quote:
