Indy500
I scored some seats in the front row of one of the penthouse paddocks down on the southish end. Never been before & I'm curious to any advice for making the day as fun as possible. Comfortable walking shoes, headset/scanner & sunscreen - check.
What else?

Well, when the times I went we usually were camped out in the infield, turn-3. The snake pit. Things have changed, probably can't do some of that stuff anymore. Thank goodness.
I think you're down by turn-1, you might have a good view of the starting line and pit-row. Binoculars might be nice. Headphones with noise cancellation. It is LOUD wherever you are.
A hat with a brim for sun shade, sunglasses, light jacket in case of rain, water bottle, a few magazines in case there are rain delays, and a lot of patience for the knuckleheads.
I don't know if you can get to the garage area anymore, it can be fun to walk around and see the different teams in their garages. I never got a chance to see Penske, but he would be worth seeing.
You might also want to do some research on the drivers beforehand, or get a race program. Sometimes there are great back stories. There's also the Indy museum on site, I've never been, but it's supposed to be awesome. The history and stories of past races.
Clubs if you want to golf the infield course.

Its closer to turn 1 yes. I can see pretty much the entire straight, pits etc from the seats according to the 3-d seat majobber I found online. Im excited.
