Lead Free Bullets?

Bill to create a program to educate about the perils of lead and an exchange of lead for nontoxic bullets.

The bill creates a two-year Nontoxic Bullet Pilot Program (program) in the Division of Parks and
Wildlife (Colorado Parks and Wildlife, CPW) in the Department of Natural Resources. The bill directs
CPW to work with one or more nongovernmental entities (NGE) to create and promote the program.
The program will allow individuals who satisfy certain requirements to receive vouchers to offset the
cost of purchasing non-lead bullets.


In addition, CPW and cooperating NGEs may develop educational materials about the program and
offer public demonstrations and educational activities at range spaces. CPW must also designate a
qualified entity to educate hunters about the benefits of hunting with nontoxic bullets and publicize
the pilot program. The program is repealed July 1, 2026. CPW may promulgate rules to implement
the program.


$32,000 each year from the Wildlife Cash Fund.

One one hand, lead has been proven toxic to humans. On the other hand, I much prefer less versus more government spending and intrusion in my life.

This is the same crap that was pushed through in California 20 years ago, and it made hunting much more expensive and gave one more thing for you to be potentially fined over.

I have no issue with providing hunter information on available projectile choices. I absolutely have an issue with mandates on projectile choices.

Are we trying to save the condor here in Colo. now too? That was the whole push for non-lead in California.

First off, I have been using solid copper TTSX bullets for a number of years for deer and elk but am absolutely against "mandates"... I stand firmly in the corner that everyone who hunts should find an appropriate hunting bullet that you can shoot the most accurately and consistently in order to maximize effectiveness and ensure ethical hunting. Lead bullets are a softer metal so open up faster/more reliably and thusly provide greater effectiveness versus harder copper bullets, especially at slower velocities (hello long range shooters?) do they want us to injure and not-recover more game animals?

Totally agree - I've only hunted big game with TTSX.

"They" want you to stop hunting and get rid of your guns.

But the Second Amendment is all about hunting…..so they tell me.
