A common-and persuasive-argument against gun registration is that those who comply just put themselves on a list to have their firearms stolen by government officials in the future. As if to emphasize the point, the New Zealand government recently confiscated firearms licenses and the guns they covered from 62 people because of their political ideology.

They were stripped of their firearms licenses because they were no longer considered "fit and proper" to possess them.

"For law-abiding American gun owners, the Kiwis' plight should serve as a stark reminder of the dangers of firearm registration, especially when coupled with a government that doesn't care about an individual's inherent rights, such as the right of their citizens to defend themselves and their families," cautions the Second Amendment Foundation.


That can't happen in America! We don't have a gun registry.

Oh yeah? Concealed carry permit? You're on a list. Buy anything gun related with a card? You're on a list. (SB24-066 signed into law) Buy a gun through an FFL? Suppressor? Belong to a gun related internet forum?

With the push by the left to legislate "hate speech" and the willingness of leftist controlled legislators to write new laws, gun confiscation due to political beliefs could happen in our country sooner and easier than you think.

I can't speak to all internet forums, but I can speak about this possibility for this site.

Except for a few that have used their real name as their username, tracing you down based off of your participation/membership on this site would take a lot of effort on behalf of the .gov. The staff doesn't know your real names. There are a coupe of ways to identify you if they wanted to put in the leg work, but it'd be time consuming, high effort and, short of a court order, a huge Constitutional violation.


ETA: Places like New Zealand have a long history of not respecting individuals natural rights, particularly as they relate to firearms. It's become much worse over the last 10 years. More proof that elections have consequences and choosing your vote wisely can have deeper ramifications than simply keeping people like "orange man" out of office.

If we only had this computing power for healthcare! Everybody is on this machines list. Every camera that has an IP address feeds this. Every credit card transaction, every phone call, every text etc. So don't be silly about lists...

Aren't they requiring us to be engaged with gun safety/training, etc. to maintain our conceal carry?

I have a friend in Australia who holds a "prohibited weapon dealer license" due to an antique import/export business she inherited.

No modern firearms, just a few black powder antiques and a ton of medieval weaponry... all stored in a series of bank vaults inside a secure and guarded facility miles from her residence.

She told me inspectors randomly show up about a dozen times a year to check her inventory against their list and have even searched her home.

The best thing about America is our Bill of Rights. Americans forget that the police can pretty much do whatever they please in other countries.

Australia has its beginnings in being a penal colony for Britain and was infamous for incest at the time. I used to watch their news reports about the US, until I knew something was wrong about them. They are bloody idiots.

Americans also forgot as well as looked the other way after the boston marathon bombing. Where house to house searches were met with zero resistance, protest or even a lawsuit filed against a warrentless search. Naturally, in the name of "homeland security" the citizens complied, without hesitation.

But thankfully we have a Constitution where that doesn't happen, right?

Or even those who believe local LE will not do anything IF a confiscation order was activated. The old school cop is and has been replaced by touchy/feely "compassionate" LE. Look at your local Dept. Notice how they're all looking like your kids or grandkids age.

If they outlaw plastic bags, they will outlaw anything. When the part of government responsible for nuclear weapons has personnel like this...anything is possible.
