Yhea, as much as I like the idea, this does not dovetail into my vision of a small federal government with narrow focus.

It's called the 2nd Ammendment.

Nothing else should be required to purchase or carry. If you are not in jail, you should have 100% of the 2nd Ammendment protections.

It does if the feds forbid the states from infringing the bill of rights and removes all the pointless licensing schemes.
