Has anyone been shooting a suppressor, SBR, SBS, or AOW in Coloraso and been asked by a range employee or LE for proof of their stamp? Or stamp, ID, and trust docs?
I know stamp holders are only required to show certain people who ask, by law, but I suppose a private range could ask to see it in order to allow it. I dunno.Attachment 99026
Not an answer really, but the only question I've seen LE ask people with NFA items is "How long did it take to get that?" or "Where did you go for that?"
It occurred to me as I wrote this that the people we meet at the range are assumed to be decent folks who follow the laws.
From what I've heard, that rarely happens unless someone violates the "no rapid fire" rule by going full auto, and you actually kinda need a tax stamp for full auto, lol.
The only time I had to provide a stamp for inspection was about a decade ago at the firing line in aurora. Their reasoning was “ atf could do a surprise inspection and the business would be fucked if you were shooting nfa without a stamp” As if the business would somehow be liable for your fuckup if that was the case.
In their defense, it was just a look at, no copies made. I would not allow copies to be made of my paperwork. If a business demanded to makeacopy then my dollar goes elsewhere. Your business equal your rules but that does not mean I have to frequent it.
They quit asking for nfa paperwork to use the range around 2020 iirc.
My nfa lawyer told me that the only ppl who can demand nfa paperwork were ATF agents and , surprisingly , IRS agents as it is a document with a tax stamp, lol. Local cops demanding to see paperwork can be told to go pound sand. Your decision to make if you want to climb that hill.
Just take a photo of it and keep it on your phone if you are worried about it.
What about if a person is a SOT?
No, never. And I shoot a quite a few indoor ranges.
Never given a second look for either a suppressor or sbr
There’s a private range / club east of Denver where the owner was a stickler for checking the documentation and matching the SN. Said due to ATF checking them, blah blah blah. I had a two stamp gun and the suppressor was dedicated to it and pretty much carbon locked under the handguard; always a hassle.
He was a mouth breather and I didn’t renew my membership.
Never been asked elsewhere.
I keep paper copies in the truck and digital ones in my files folder on my phone.
