Shooting in Rampart Range?

I know you can hunt up there, but are you allowed to go up there to shoot and plink around?

From my understanding no you can not! there used to be a place up there where you could from my understanding shoot, but there was a accident last year i think and the rangers have closed the place where they allowed the public to shoot.

others may add to my post as i am not 100 percent sure! just from what i have read up there and know personally! also it is normally to busy up there too many people riding in my opinion!

Yeah I just read that thread. What about any places near Highlands Ranch. I have a 1500 acres but its all out near byers and want a place closer to shoot

here is the link to google maps where forum members have been compiling a list of place to shoot some are public areas some are private clubs and ranges but will help you see whats close to you!

looking at the map the south site will be your best bet for plinking!

Rampart Range is currently closed but I've see talk where they are going to reopen it eventually. Unfortunately, there hasn't been any discussion on the target date.

The Rampart Range area (Not the old range by Colorado Springs) is managed by the forest service as part of the Pike National Forest. Much of it in Dougles county is still open, none in Elpaso county. Check the forest service signs for details and keep in mind all the trail riders in that area.

I have ound a number of places, non over 100 yds, where you can shoot.

I have yet to hear any rumblings about them re-opening Rampart Range shooting area. Where/when did you hear this?
Lots of people use that area, problem is, people are going to go out into the forest looking for a place to shoot and get into trouble.
They definitely need to re-open it or at least open another area for us to shoot at.
