Accuracy: SAR-1 vs SKS
I already own a SAR-1 and finding that it's nowhere near as consistently accurate as my AR15. I like the 7.62x39 caliber, though, and was wondering if a Yugo SKS is significantly better in this area. I know nothing about the SKS, just that it's inexpensive and would fill my want for a larger caliber range rifle that's inexpensive to enjoy.
Any feedback on this?
Thanks in advance.

I may be wrong but from what I have read it is more the round than the guns themselves. My AK isnt very accurate either.

I got the impression (from other forums) that the inaccuracy is mainly due to barrel tolerances on the SAR-1; supposedly, it's better with the higher quality of the Bulgy barrel w/ same ammo. And some of it is due to ammo. Some claim to shoot 2" groups @ 100 yds all day through iron sights w/ the SAR-1; I don't see it happening with mine and it's taken the fun out of target shooting for me. I suppose it's not a targeter; I can hit tight groups all day with the AR15.
Do you think that an SKS would be a whole lot better than the SAR-1?

I haven't put enough ammo through my SAR1 to know. It is, as Marlin pointed out, sighted in at "minute of frying pan." Having said that I need to shoot it a lot more to reall feel good about it, and or really know where and how its going to hit the target.
That being said, I'm confident that I can hit what I aim at with my Yugo. (And SOG marked the "excellent condition" rifles down to $99 this week!)
A completely unscientific "feeling" that I have is this. The Yugo SKS rifle I have is more accurate then my SAR1. I've never shot my SAR2 so that may be a whole different story. That is just a feeling, and is not born out by any extensive shooting. And I really need to fix that.

I haven't really had the chance to sight in the SAR-1 yet so, I don't have real data for that yet, it is "minute of Frying pan" at 75 yrds I can live with that, for now. As far as the SKS, It was a bear to sight in, almost as bad as the CETME. Once I got it there though, it was decent. Never measured it to know for sure but, I did manage to shoot out the center of a 10" target at 50 yrds with it.

my type 56 and Yugo SKS's are more accurate than my SAR-1.
ALL are quite leathal, and will do the job when it comes down to the wire.
if we're talking groups on paper out to a determined range, my M1A will will outshoot all my semi autos.

every one of my sks's long barrel and short, outshoot any of my AK's hands down.

'Good enough. It looks like I'll be adding one to my collection by summer. Thanks, people.

So how do the accuracy of the SKS compare to the AR?
Just curious.
