Funny Story about Pawnee this weekend
So went out to Pawnee this weekend to stretch the legs of the 338 Lapua.
Got out there pretty early with a coupla friends. The place I usually go is kind of a little valley with plenty of places to shoot 50-100 yds and really only one place to shoot 300+ yards.
We get there and there is a group of people shooting trap at the only "long distance" place. This is ok because it is fairly large. It would be cake to share this area. (and in reality all this other group had to do was just rotate about 45 degrees and there wouldnt have even been any overlap between our fields of fire)
We kinda setup and go over to this group and ask em if they can stop shooting so we can go setup a coupla targets.
Me: Can you stop shooting so I can setup some targets?
Them: ummm...no
Me: Umm... What? (me being dumb-founded as I am a nice guy and would have done this in a heartbeat)
Them: "We dont want to have to stop shooting so you can check your targets".
Me: Umm, we'll setup quite a few so we wont have to go out very many times. Plus I am still breaking in my rifle so it is a long time between shots and I have to clean it after 5 shots. (giving it a nice slow break-in to ensure accuracy ya know)
Them: "No. Find somewhere else. Keep shooting boys"
So I sez to myself, Ya know what, fine, be a little pr*ck. What comes around goes around.
We end up setting up fairly close targets and still having a good time shooting pistols and what not, and having a good time with other (more friendly) people that show up later.
Around noon the Park Ranger shows up. He talks to us for a little bit. Heck of a nice guy. We were being totally safe and it was obvious that we were going to recover all of our targets (I have fairly good target mounts - not something you just walk away from). Anyway, the ranger asks us about the a** neighbors and their ATV's. We tell the ranger they have just been riding the ATV's up and down the road. No big deal. The ranger informs us the ATV's are not allowed in this part of the Pawnee. He say he will just let these guys off with a warning. After all, they were not destroying anything just by riding up and down the road.
So the Ranger walks over to talk to the a** neighbors, and they wont even stop shooting to talk to him. When he finally gets one of the guys to stop, the guy is just a _complete_ a** to the ranger.
Before it is all over the a**'s had 2 citations (1 for each ATV), had to pick up _ALL_ of their shutgun hulls, and had to pick up _ALL_ of their shot trap. It seemed like they were cleaning for the better part of an hour.
It was awesome.
