Spot out east of Denver?
Looking for a spot, public lands maybe that isn't more than 45 min - 1hr. from the east side of Denver. Byers is cool enough, just don't want to be on a actual range. Pawnee is out as well for a few different reasons. Anyone know of any place?
Hell maybe even something s. of Denver closer than the south shoot spot. Really, I'm just looking to not have to trek into the mountains if I'm just wanting to head out for a hour or two.

What do you have against Pawnee?

Mostly the drive and the wind. But mostly the drive. The site we shot at was the one cleaned up by the club a few months ago. The sites we passed getting there reminded me of Lefthand Canyon. Not good.
Really, I want some place I can take new shooter (which I seem to be doing more and more these days) so I can teach them as I seem fit without the distraction of someone else, hence a significant safety concern there. I don't like teaching at places like Cherry Creek or -and mind you I won't even go to the store front anymore- Firing line.
Ah well, if it exist, it does. If not, I'll just keep going to Kelsey Creek.

The 88 & 61 site at pawnee has way less traffic.
About 3/4 of the time I go I'm the only one there.
It does have some obnoxious trash, but not as bad as the main site off road 96.
It's my preferred place at pawnee because of the way reduced chance of having to deal with jerks. (or anyone for that matter)

we (COAR) used to go to Pawnee, but it's too damn far for almost everyone!
not to mention it's pretty windy and picking up after OTHERS is a chore.

Doesn't seem to matter where I end up, we end up pulling out a full hefty trash bag of other peoples sheit.. so that doesn't seem to be an issue. Plus I don't have to do as much pick up because I'm packing up. It's good to be the teacher some times.
Really Pawnee is just too far, I was hoping for something like what 10and45 offered, just closer to Denver.
Ah, well.. maybe something will come up.
