I built my AK about 8 months ago and have yet to refinish the metal. The thing that stalled me was trying to find a competent smith that would sand blast the metal.
The metal needs to be blasted with a 90 grit media for proper adhesion.
Is there anyone in the Greeley, Loveland, Fort Collins area that you guys can recommend. If I have to, I'm willing to go further south to find someone that is willing and able to do this.

i have a sandblasting unit around here somewhere. if you want come check it out. if you can use it great. i might even have some media left over from reloading.

I'm going to use a product called MolyResin. I've seen quite a few beautiful AKs refinished in the product and I thought I'd give it a shot.
Any links to pics? I've wanted to see just what this looks like.
Sounds interesting though. I looked at the stuff on the shooting solns web page.
$35.00 isn't bad for the 1oz kit. And the 160* temp is pretty easy to hit at home.
If you haven't read it yet, they say to make sure the chamber doesn't get coated.

Plus, the stuff that he used from the other company is better than the stuff I have been looking at.
I also like the fact it can be put on top of almost any finish AND the different colors available.
I'm going to get some of the OD green for my 1919a4.
I'm in the process of building an oven setup that will be big enough to stick rifles in. I got an old stove today for the heating elements and controls. When I get it finished, you are welcome to use it for doing your rifle.
Look around SKS Boards for another thread dealing with an oven to bake rifles in. One of the members used an old locker to create an oven that is perfect for just what you need.
Mine is a two door filing cabnet. Roughly 4'x4'x18" deep. I still have to figure out how to insulate it, but the electrical side is ready to go.
I was talking to some of the guys on the 1919a4 board about the moly.
They all had raving reviews of it. Great stuff!
I'm going to do my 1919a4 in OD green.
I'm hoping to have my parking/bluing hot tanks going in the next month or so, and the oven going next month. I have to install a furnace in my garage first, then make some more room.

That's my buddy Lee's powdercoating shop. He does blasting too, and has a 6x10' oven that would fit, oh, about thirty rifles at once. :mrgreen: Call him, he does great work and is still small enough that he'd probably be interested in semi-custom stuff like this.
