S&W Model 60
I have an opportunity to purchase a S&W Model 60 (earlier model) in .38 +P with a safariland leather model 16 holster and speed loader for $325. I'm torn between this setup and a used 642 for about the same. Downside is cash is low and could use the setup of the holster etc. The model 60 is all stainless steel parts (including internals) and has no lock or MIM parts. Is this a decent deal? I've check all the auction sites and they seem to be going for 325-375.... no box or papers. Thoughts?

michael - the model 60 you showed is a new production model that is different from the classic one made in the 70s that i'm looking at. the model i'm looking at is in .38 (the newer ones come in .357), and have a 1 7/8" barrel. its a classic gun with what seems to be values of 350-400, but i wanted to make sure those prices just werent gunbroker and gunsamerica rip offs, and that i'd be getting a fair deal.

Depending on condition, it's well worth that price IMHO. If I was into that type of gun and had the money, I'd go for it. Karl.

It doesn't have the cheesy lock and the internals are not MIM. That sounds like a bonus to me over the new revolvers.

Be sure to check the timming before you buy. It's common for J-Frames to have late lock-up on one or two chambers.

great. thanks for the info. i think im going to get a 337, 642, or 442 new instead. possibly a bodyguard...
