geeze thats insane.... but it took 8 shots! shoulda used a high power rifle... dunno why he used a pistol....
I still feel sorry for that animal though... such a beutiful animal... Not going greenpeace on anyone or anything just sayin....
Still thats a once in a lifetime chance and surely will make lots of ham!
I have to agree with Delphi on this one, I don't think I could have brought myself to kill it. It was a beautiful one of a kind creature and now it's dead. I don't have any issues with hunting, but I think it's selfish and uncreative to kill something like that.
Ya my sentiments are like that, but if I would have chosen to kill it I would have at least used a high power rifle with real good ammo though.... somthing about having used 8 shots from a pistol and let that thing just suffer for 3 hours kinda irks me when one good .3006 or .308 woulda put it down allot faster. Kinda like using a .22 to put down a cow or horse... it's just not right.
Presonally I would have rather tracked it and captured it somehow... would have made a great display in a zoo somewhere I mean that thing is just amazing.
It's been 24 years since I've killed pigs so I'll have to ask my dad if my memory is correct. A pig is actually kind of hard to kill instantly with 1 shot unless you hit it exact. I believe I had to draw an imaginary X between the top tip of the ears to the opposite sides outer corner of it's eye and then hit the crossing lines of the X. Basically a bit higher then right between it's eyes. Steers or cows were even harder to kill with 1 shot. We had to sometimes shoot them 2 or 3 times, but most of the time once would do it. I can see why it would take many shots to kill that huge hog!
Ya i can see that it would take more than one shot... but it took 8. That pistol even though big and probobly quite powerfull just doesnt have the velocity to penetrate as deep into that pig as a high power rifle would have... That and the fact that it was a one of a kind is the only real prob I have with the whole deal.
I still think it would have made for a great zoo display :p
