Nevermind.. I got ahold of the state patrol, and they said i was gtg.
What? The state patrol does not know the laws of hunting in Colorado.
You need a small game license or a furbearers license to shoot coyotes on private land with some exceptions for depredation that probably don't apply.
When the game and wildlife office is closed the state patrol handles it. They said if your out of city limits on private land, that you don't need a permit. Can you show me info that says otherwise? In would like to know if they were right or not.
That is incorrect and you need a credible source. You do need a license to hunt coyotes, private or public lands.

I copied this directly from page 2 "Purchasing a License" of the on-line 2012 Colorado Hunting Regulations:
6. You can hunt coyotes without a small-game license during big-game seasons if you have an unfilled big-game license for the same season and unit. You must use the same method of take for coyotes as your big-game license allows. Once the big-game license has been filled, hunters must purchase a small-game license to continue hunting coyotes.
Well the whole reason for shooting them is to protect livestock. Does that make a difference?
There are laws enabling people to act in situations when an animal is actually attacking but those are very limited circumstances. I encourage you to purchase a license.
Good Luck on your hunt
To hunt on private land you do not need a license if you are acting as an agent of the land owner to protect property/livestock. You are not allowed to benefit from the kill (keep the pelt). Where you will run into trouble is if Mr. Game warden shows up and he does not think you have a valid reason to shoot the coyote. This has been discussed before. Get the license. It's not expensive and removes any grey area.
Orrrrr I can just come shoot them for you?
