Anyone shoot one? Looking at one for steel and some antelope. I know 7mm might be better but i found a deal on one.

Great caliber, but low barrel life (2K (if your lucky) instead of 5K in a 260).
I wont be shooting it to much so thats not a big deal. I would probably use the factory barrel for a while then replace it anyways.
Good selection of bullets and about 100fps faster than a .260. The barrel life ruled it out for me, but it might be right for you.
Here it is! Accutrigger and Nikon scope for $489! I will be upgradeing the scope and getting some reload supplies asap! At $60 for a box of HSM I cant afford to buy factory ammo!

I'm pretty sure 6.5x284 held the 10 shot 1000 yd record not too many tears ago.
Cool cartridge! I ran one as a trrget rifle and got 2400 rds out of the barrel and it was still pretty darn accurate but when i took it off it was horrible to look at.
I have two 6.5-284 rifles built on Remington 700 long actions. Both built by John Branstatter and both are very accurate. Using 120, 123, 140 & 142 grain bullets I have shot some very nice groups out to 600 yards. I use Lapua and Norma brass and have had good luck with Nosler, Sierra and Berger bullets. I have found a couple of loads using H1000 and H4350 pushing a 142 gr. SMK about 2700 fps that are very accurate and should be kinder to the barrel than the hotrod loads.
