Its a me issue. I've tried melatonin and others but the effects from it exceeded the benefits. I've been like this pretty much all my life. Its just been bad since I started on this last contracting gig.
Is it an anxiety issue?
I've been blessed in that I can turn my brain off, relax, and go straight to sleep.
It drives my wife nuts! [Coffee]
My wife has no idea how I can lay down, turn off the lights, and be sleeping about ten seconds later.
I bet if she started her day at 5:00 a.m. and was on the go until around 6:00 p.m. and then doing stuff at the house after work and then going to bed around 11 or 11:30 she would be out pretty quick too and trying to get a solid five or six hours of sleep before doing it all over again.
Our brains are wired differently. It's pretty easy for a guy to mentally go idle. That's kind of our default mode, the "Nothing" box. That's usually tough for women.

I wish I could fall asleep like that. I definitely can't just turn off my brain.
Only need a few seconds to a few minutes to settle/relax into sleep.
I have fallen asleep sitting in the grandstands of NASCAR Cup races. I can also sleep standing up in line waiting. Especially if can lean against wall.
I have occasionally fallen asleep just driving down the road.
Usually at the end of a long week enjoying a stupid long commute in some boring part of the country.
