NOC (No One Cares) tidbit:

I finally satisfied a mystery that has been bothering me since 9th grade when I first saw Das Boot: What the hell the germans said in unison right before they embarked and they were answering the Captain. It was "Jawohl Herr Kaleu!" and I always understood the jawohl herr but couldn't figure out what the hell this Kaleu word was.

It's the abbreviation for Captain Lieutenant, or KApitaenLEUtnant.

No Nazi, but I taught myself german by watching german language movies subtitled in English (they were all about ww2 back then *shrugs* or called Lola Rennt) and listening to my exchange student friend's left wing music (Die Aerzte, Die Toten Hosen, Die Fantastischen Vier, etc). To brag: I taught myself to a 300-class college level, but still went back to a 200 level class when I eventually went to school because my grammar rules were obviously lacking.

I reiterate: if anyone ever wants to practice speaking German/Russian, hit me up!
