I've always wanted to try surfing. Now I'm going to have to look up how a hydrofoil works so I can make out what I'm watching.
Yes, which is where Laird got the idea (ripping it off a ski and attaching to a surfboard).
There's a documentary on it somewhere. The main takeaway is that it really revolutionized where and how they could surf big waves. On a regular board, choppy conditions can be fatal. Hydrofoil assists in eliminating that issue, since it rides "below" the surface.
