We don't get enough rain here to need the gravel. Just some sand should be fine.

If you're feeling generous, you could go as thick as half an inch.

Haha, dang, was hoping I could get two posts back to back.

I would say at least an inch for drainage. When I rerouted my water line, I did a total of 2 inches, but that was mostly to provide a cushion for the PEX pipe so none of the huge ass rocks would puncture it.

And wait, what am I offering advice on thicknesses of sand for? I just saw someone asking for how thick and threw out some numbers. [LOL]
