I was shooting 750 with a 10x, and having no problems.

10x can get you to 1k.... would you WANT something more... sure, but 10x will get you there.

So like I said... it's more of a preference to make up for my lack of skill. :D

I was shooting 700 with 9x40 on the 7mm. Of course it was screwing around and windy as hell, but I was still able to hit the sihloet

I think the next time I try 1k, I'll use my 6-24x50. Oh, and everyone here has REALLY expensive guns.
