I thought about that right after I posted. Water would stain the ceiling tiles, and at least one of them doesn't mind water.

Are the lattices that hold the ceiling tiles sturdy enough to hold that much weight? That's a lot of ceiling to cover.

If weight is a concern get the lightweight sheetrock.

I have the same issue, only my brats fall thru the ceiling taking tiles or the clear plastic fluorescent light covers w/them. I want to get rid of the dropped ceiling and tiles completely, and renovate the basement, but not sure what the requirements are.

the Grid should hold it fine we used this all the time in server rooms
