OP is requesting info on the third gen 16+ Tacoma's, many folks are posting about the second gen 05-15 Tacoma's, different animals all together.
Yup in 2016 they got a new motor as well

There's a bunch of info out there when I used the Google to look up "2016 tacoma technical service bulletin".
I had an '06 tacoma and no complaints. The 4x4 solenoid would gum up in cold weather though but i learned how to deal with it. If I would have kept it, I would have replaced it. I only sold it to get a diesel for towing.
