Most stuff I run into is .26 gauge and factory painted. That holds up well, but isn't impervious to wind/hail damage for sure.

Irving is right. Wish I could help you find a product that rusts, if that's what she wants. I built our home with steel columns and electro-painted galvanized steel siding and roofing. It was featured in a building magazine for it's innovative design. No rust, and maintenance (paint) free for 27 years, so far.
They do offer numerous color options for paint. If she's not interested in painting have someone else do it. Between the paint and used at UB's she'd probably be in to the roof for less than 1/2 of new materials, alone.
Of course CL and FB marketplace always have used building materials for sale, or free, you haul ad's
