Before my truck was stolen, I would routinely put a twin air mattress in the back. If it looked like it might rain, I would put up one of those soccer Mom pop-up canopies over the bed. Bungy the canopy to the bottom of the bed and call it good. Only one time did it rain hard enough that I lowered the legs on the canopy till it was a couple of inches above the top of the box. Red neck camping at it's finest. Most of the time I just find a tree and hang a hammock.
I'm planning on a road trip this fall in my Prius. I've seen others using them as one person campers. I will still have my hammock with me.

If I had an unlimited budget I'd just buy the place I wanted to go to (like Trump and Greenland) and build a nice get-away lodge. With a runway long enough for my G5, of course.
