I saw 'Top Gun' when it came out.... at the time I thought it was cheesy, though entertaining given the cold war was still 'hot'. And Kenny Loggins' 'Danger Zone' .......[facepalm]
'Hot Shots' was a much better movie....[A9]

Saw it yesterday with the family. Early, cheap tickets and used up the rest of the gift card. The dozen or so previews was a bit much, but the theater was clean, and only about a dozen people watching the movie.
The movie was okay, and probably worth the cheaper tickets, and the lack of other people in the theater for the early show.
Without spoilers, the two pivotal parts of the movie are almost impossible given the controls the .mil has. Even the later one in escape mode, very unlikely. Some cheesy parts, some good acting that really made you feel what the characters would have felt. Yes, the flying scenes were cool, and they did a good job of portraying the tension. The lack of cussing, sex and general debauchery were fine with me, but those who like the gratuitous, and or the new wokeness of Hollywood will pan it.
If cruise does "Evening of Thunder", "Laundering of Money" and "MockTails" I might just see them too, but probably not in the theater unless someone gives me another AMC giftcard.
Unless Leslie Nielsen makes a cameo appearance, I have no interest in seeing a movie with airplanes as a central character.
Wife and I saw it last night. We were entertained.
Spoilers ahead:
I thought the love interest portion was fine given they kept it a minimum and didn't drown us with backstory. The lack of returning characters from the original was fine by me. I was pleased to see the nameless, faceless bad guy reprise his role as the bad guy.
Some parts were cheesey and a bit much but overall, I enjoyed it.
I am a Fire Birds kinda guy.
Realism, actual real life aircraft maneuvers, top notch acting and it portrayed the Military in the most realistic way I have ever seen!
Saw TG Maverick tonight and I was pleasantly surprised. No movie now a days is perfect but I liked it. For two plus hours I was not think about all the dumb shit going on in the world
I'll check it out when it's free on the service I have.
