Samsung all the way for me. Q70 series and above are stunning. We have a Q70 from a couple years ago, and it's the best TV we've ever owned. We own a lower model also, and it's just OK.
I'll never buy another Sony product. We bought a super expensive Sony TV some time ago. Their flagship model. It was in our home theater room, so it didn't get a lot of hours. Turned out that model had a problem, and a class action lawsuit was filed. Those who knew about it got their problems fixed. Ours didn't fail until about 6 months after the deadline to collect from Sony. They told me to pound sand on a $4,000 TV. Never again.

I've had both Samsung and Sony. We're all Samsung now.

Very happy with our LG C1 (I think they're now onto the C2 model).

Sony. Best picture quality and best color rendering. If it’s in your budget, get one of the models with the “Acoustic surface” feature. Sounds will be incredible even without a sound system.

We have also had both Samsung and Sony and have been happy with both.
However, we are all Samsung now. Great picture and apps are easy to use/load.

I still use cnet when I'm comparison shopping for consumer electronics.

I have a couple 65" Samsung TVs....2017-19 vintage. One of them developed a shadow area in the lower right about a year after I got it. It still works but it's there. After doing some reading on the model, I discovered it was a common issue. The other one has worked well. Whichever one you get regardless of how great the reputation, make sure you read some reviews on the model you are considering because the manufactures all have their issues with different models. Stay away from the Chinese ones like Hisense and TCL (Toshiba, Sharp, Westinghouse, Panasonic, and Insignia are all china too). If it was me, I would only look at Samsung, Sony, LG, and Vizio.

We are fans of Samsung just because we have had great experience. Sams Club / Costco both have the new HD Samsungs for $400ish which is a great price. I have not owned a Sony so I cant speak to those.

Good thread! Our old Samsung needs replacing, picture's good but the power supply is shit. Have to leave it on 24x7 and muted, otherwise it goes wild when you turn it on, takes 20-30 minutes before it normals up.
And stay the HELL away from Parker TV Repair! Guy's a fucking crook. Worked on it once, didn't fix it, now he's ghosting me. $289 down the shitter.
