The rifle on the right is my modded Mosin. The one on the left is one of my type 53's. I am trying to figure out the best scope mount to use on the modded rifle.

The best ones I have dealt with are the "Rock Solid" mounts. Kind of a pita to install and sometimes they need steel bedding to the receiver but as the name implies they are a solid mount. The bolt handle requires alteration as well.
I have looked at the rock solids. My bolt is bent but I am not sure if it is bent enough for the mount. I am definitley paying somebody to mount it. My drilling and tapping in the past has not been so precise.
The bolt handle needs to be cut, extended a tad and rewelded. You also need to make sure you have the optic you are going to use as the mount/scope combo must be complete at the time of mounting to correctly align it prior to drilling/tapping.Quote:

I saw one the other day on armslist with a 16" bull barrel and compensator duracoated OD Green. It was pretty sweet. Wish I would have had the cash to pick it up.
Think after chewing on it, the categories I am impartial to are the sight / squeeze portion of the rifle. Anyone find a cheaper trigger option than the Timney?
FWIW - if you remove the rear sight assembly from a 91/30, there's a 3/8" dovetail on top of the barrel, and you can clamp a 3/8" scope mount on there for a .22 or air rifle. This is a Leapers mount I got from Optics Planet. I don't know the Item Number offhand, but I'm sure it's here in an old thread somewhere, I've mentioned this before. But you have to use a long-eye-relief scout scope.
