Hello? Same question about using a .22, thanks!
I know people that shoot 50 bmg. They take mile long shots. A 22 will get you 100 yrd shoots. It's just what do you like. A (close)friend of mine is DEADLY WITH A SLING SHOT.P-dog drops over dead.[ROFL1] I like the 223 w a 55gr v-max because they explode.[Help][ROFL1]
Thanks! The reason I ask is because...
#1 - I don't really want to buy a new rifle just for this.
#2 - I have an old Remington 514 single shot .22 with a large cheapo scope on it that's just deadly accurate. I can hit bottle caps all day long at 50 yards with it, and shoot the center out of targets easily. It'll make quarter-sized groups with no problem.
#3 - The grandson has a Ruger 10/22 with a scope also.
I just didn't know what kind of distances you typically have to hunt pasture poodles at, and I didn't know if regular .22 rounds are fast enough to hit the rats before they duck back into their holes.
I do have a Mosin Nagant 91/30 that would probably make a good mist out of 'em too, but I haven't got a chance to even shoot it yet, so I don't know how it would do. Have a couple of Colt 1911's that are pretty dang accurate too, that would be a good challenge out to 50 yards or so.
Reckon I need to do some door-knockin' to find a place.
As others have said you can get by with anything. I've used my .22 rifles for in close with a max range of about 100-150 yds. When it gets longer than that, I revert to my .22-250. I've taken them out past 450 yds with it. They don't hear the shots coming before the bullet gets there with either rifle. And when I'm shooting out past 400 yds they don't see you either so if you miss and just kick up dirt around them, they don't tend to permanently spook. They'll go down their hole and pop right back up within a minute or so.
.22 lr works great and its cheap all day long
problem is the little doggies almost always crawl back into their holes after being shot with only a .22lr so no real glory and a slow death
.17 HMR works pretty good sometimes they still manage to make it back down under though
.223 SP and some HP with blow them up under 100 yds and flip'em if you hit'em right at further distances
.22-250 is what the video guys use and those are so amped up it explodes them pretty good
Well, I have 600 rounds of 7.62x54R Bulgarian heavy ball for the Mosin, that oughta pop 'em like water balloons! http://i18.photobucket.com/albums/b1...nim_m91-30.gif I'm dying to shoot it, I don't know if it's accurate or lucky to hit a Volkswagen with yet. It's just that with my .22, I could make head shots all day long.
the mosin is supposed to kick like a mule
have fun with that one
