getting ready to fire up the "lawn tractor" for some snow redistribution.
Just got back from the range, shot my first reloaded rounds of .40 S&W. Not a single malfunction, no signs of high pressure (looking at primer or for case bulges), found a load that is VERY accurate in my Glock 23. I think I'll load up another 100-150 or so for a longer range session this weekend with my Fiancee while she shoots the G23 with 40-9 conversion barrel.
Did a little price calculations too, and I am already realizing the benefits of reloading. The 70rds that I shot today only cost me a total of $14.4271 (prices of powder/primers/bullets including tax). That comes to $10.305 for a 50rd box. Walmart price for 50rds of .40S&W is around $16-$18 last I bought it, so I'm very happy with my savings and the improved accuracy!
Best of all, the cheaper price of ammo means I can go practice more! :D
Yea, its definitely an awesome feeling the first time you shoot your own ammo!
I found that 3.6gr of WST behind a 165gr FMJ (heavy plated Frontier) with 1.125" OAL produces the most accurate groupings. At ~7yds, I got 6 out of 10 shots within a 1" circle, all touching and they tore a big hole through the target. The other 4 rounds were within 1/2" of that hole. It might actually be the best grouping I've ever gotten with my pistol too! The load that was second was the 4.2gr WST. That one was about a 2.5" grouping, all rounds were equally spaced in a circle though. I'll play around with both loads more.
I also tried 3.3gr WST, 4.2gr WST and 4.7gr N340. I'll definitely play around with N340 more later, but for the time being I'll stick to the much cheaper WST and really nail down that load.
AND i had 155 lbs of mixed brass delivered ;)
I drank beer with a zombie as well as a couple of fingers 21 yr old Jefferson's Presidential Select. Now I am totally ruined on Bourbon.
...and we lit powder on fire and smacked primers with a hammer.
Got rid of the whole thing.. tore it all down including the studs.
I can rebuild it.. I have the technology.
