Joined the "700 Club"

Good looking rifles guys. My scope mount should be in today along with the rest of the order from Brownells finally. I am going to go with the 20MOA EGW steel rail mount and I think that will do for now.
So now the build process begins in earnest time permitting.
She will be Devcon steel bedded in the stock and I will bed the rail to the receiver as well.
List of things to do:
Steelbed the action in the GreyBull Precision stock.
Steelbed the rail to the receiver.
Mount the Timney 510
Install the bolt knob I made-I may end up welding the handle a touch so I can make a nice seamless transition to the bolt knob.

I am going to shoot it as is and establish a baseline, then I am going to re-crown it and see what difference that makes.

We shall see.................

I just picked up a 700 at Dicks and looking forward to modding it a lil.
Id like to get the detachable magazine. From the sounds of what Ive read on the net..Its best to ditch the stock, however I cant see why? I can clearance the front free floating it and glass bed it and wouldnt that cure any probs id have with the factory stock?

Quick Question. Is it a big deal to drill into the factory stock and add a Picatinny ral to mount a bipod that I have for my AR on there when needed? Friends say...YOU SHOULD NEVER MOD THE STOCKS it ruins value.

I haven't touched it yet-customers firearms come first.

As far as your stock- what you do depends on the stock. If it is one of the "Tupperware" plastic pos stocks then anything you do is a waste aside from selling it. If it is wooden or a quality synthetic stock then by all means pillar/glass bed it.
As far as a rail mounted to the forearm-as long as the attachment points don't touch the barrel in any way then you should have no problem. Anything that puts any pressure on the barrel forward from a point 1 inch forward of the recoil lug can be detrimental. A forearm on a modern bolt action serves no real purpose other than aesthetics and an attachment point for a sling/bipod.

No offense to you or your friends but its hard to ruin something that does not have much value to begin with. Especially if its just a standard plastic stock. Wood stock, maybe, but it would have to be pretty damn nice, HS precision probably add value if it were to resold to someone thats using the atlas quick detach bipods. If its gonna work for you, drill it and dont worry about it!
