Shifting does not happen on in town driving. Highway driving is another story. I was not allowed to take it more then 4 miles away. Groove Toyota Broadway would not take it back on the 3rd day, I tried trough and fit in the showroom. They said it needs a download and if you don't like it then bring it back on the 4th day. I did, they told me to pack sand on he 4th day. It's seriously my worst mistake ever in my life.Quote:

I have a 2012 Taco and love it (other than the gas mileage - 17/17 no matter what). I have the option to get a brand spanking new 2017 for damn near nothing; and I haven't.
There is a specific issue with the 2016-2017 Tacomas, that Toyota cannot get parts for, so many (many) are just sitting unable to be sold. Or are returns where the company had to buy them back because they cannot get the replacement part. In about 4 months you are going to see a FLOOD of new 2016-2017 Tacos on the market (e.g. when the part supplier catches up and the dealers are able to 'fix' the issue).
I have a 16' DCLB and no complaints. Love it. Shifting is kind of weird in the hills, but it's no big deal breaker for me.
Im getting 18-23 mpg with a lift and 255/75/17's with a topper and aluminum front bumper. Almost 26k and have been off road and long road trips. No issues. Had some vibrations, but that was due to a poor alignment after installing the lift. My fault.
I was quite worried about this myself - but couldn’t really find anyone enthusiastic to do this job between dealer, a couple of independent trans shops, and an independent toyota place. Yeah, I could do it myself, but didn’t feel it and it has been a long time since I’ve done that work. Trans place said if I actually noted heat, he’d be happy to talk more but really thought I should just drive it first with the TRD cooler.Quote:

If you are truly concerned, go MT. [Dunno]. My CTD and 13 Taco were (and FJ is), and I wish I’d done that, but anticipated my wife driving it more than she does now, but she used it a lot when we got it. Towing with an auto sucks, IMHO, no matter which one it is.
