Pretty weird. I admit I was peeking out of my shelter (big no-no) watching the 360 flames. It got warm but not overly hot...
Closest the burn got to us was about 20 yards. Pretty good by any standard. Closest I've ever come to a burn over....
Seen the results of others though, not good. Uncle was in one back in the 70's. He remembers digging out and realizing half the lumps in his crew weren't moving...
Sorry this story got a little dark. I guess I'll try to end it on a high note. We were hailed like triumphant heros when we cleared out of that. Dad, (who was IC). Broke out a special bottle of scotch when we got home...
He also told me if I ever do that again... Well, you can guess the rest...

Fun story dude. Bummer about the rabbit. I have a very personal vendetta against rabbits, but I would never want to see anything or anyone burn to death... that just sucks.
I can't imagine the adrenaline of a fire like that racing toward you and surrounding you... Glad you always made it out alive!
