Pre-turducken, missing the turkey & duck?

Go my first chicken the same way. Came home from church and it was in the yard. Walked the neighborhood several times and didnt find the owner. That chicken laid two eggs a day.

Maybe it's not laying eggs because it used to be a rooster?

It's probably not laying eggs due to the lack of natural daylight out right now. Chickens need a certain amount of daylight (or artificial substitute lamps) in order to keep laying regularly. My flock of 19 is not laying at all right now on account of that. We don't have artificial light since we'd rather give them a break during the winter.
