Looking @ Davis Monthan AFB from the other side of Tucson (Catalina Range through a spotting scope so I can't get a better image) & I see a line of DC10s (used for refueling Im guessing) but does anyone know what the really big plane (top left) facing the opposite direction is? Thanks.
Saw a line of F16s taking off when I was landing the other day. Air national Guard because of the AZ tail number.
If your referring to the one just over that curved roofline, that's a C-5.
Some trivia-at one point the AZ Air National Guard was referred to as "Old Gun", take off on Top Gun, due to the experience of the majority of the pilots. Smithsonian's flight magazine even did an article about it (can't remember the name but maybe "Air and Space"?). When we first moved to Tucson my dad used to take me out to an area where we just outside the fence to watch takeoffs and landings sitting in our Pontiac Catalina convertible. Great memories for sure. The first air show I ever went to was that first year, pretty cool for a 12 yr old. Got to go through a B17, need to see if I can find those photos.
Friend of mine sent me these from earlier today. Coolest plane on the planet irrespective of the passengers and the support aircraft is pretty cool too.
