Last week I checked the nest box on our Palisade farm house that American Kestrels have been using. Kestrels are the smallest American falcon. They typically eat mice, lizards, grasshoppers and occasionally small birds. I was surprised to find eight eggs in the box. That will be crowded in the box if they all hatch.

Kestrels have nested in this box over many years, and sometimes in a Barn Owl box ~70 yards from the house. This year like last year we have two pair of Kestrels nesting in boxes on the property. Also nesting in small wicker baskets on the house this year are Western Kingbirds and Eurasian Collared Doves.
Hummer, are there possums in Colorado? I didn't think there were, but I listened to a podcast from someone working for the state of Colorado and running hair traps and she was saying there was a lot of possum. She might have just confused what she was saying though.
Yes, there are opossums in CO.

Interesting, thanks. The podcast was about a lady checking fur traps and then being attacked by a grizzly bear. That part didn't happen in Colorado of course. Not yet anyway.
Yes, very interesting report. I didn't know the answer but thought there might be some opossum in the SE corner of the state.
I know they are in and around the Arkansas Valley where I grew up.

out shooting prairie dogs couple weekends ago and had a doe antelope that just hung around. Figured she had a fawn some where near and we finally spotted it. It let me get pretty close for a pic.

We were up in the Medicine Bow National Forest, outside Laramie, last week and ran across this critter. Anyone have any idea what this thing is?
