Im sorry, perhaps I hadn't stated that as well as I could have. Our Diff shop has been waiting for me to get the new case in place and tacked up so they can finish the welds and install the gear set. Then I can put the diff back in the truck, and put the rest of it back together. They'll make the rear driveshaft as well.

Then I take the front out, disassemble all of it, and send that to them for gearing.....get it back and then put it all back together with new ball joints, bearings, hubs etc,...whatever it needs to make it right.

I didn't realize that Logan gives you the flag prior to the service, then they give it back to you afterwards.

I'm more interested in knowing if changing gears in a transfer case is the same level of difficulty as changing the gears on a diff. I did a little searching on that last night but it was late by the time I looked and I fell asleep.

Well, there are a lot of t case varieties. I imagine a chain driven limited choice case is easier than a multiple option gear only case.

I don't know.

As easy as it is to completely eff up a two gear diff, I would also think it's train wreck city to jump right into multiple gear t cases.

Yeah, I'm looking it up and while it doesn't sound exactly the same as setting up gears in a diff, it certainly doesn't sound like it's on the easy side. My T-case is a two speed with gears, no chain drive.

Bleh.

Drilling 1/4 plate six times and 1/4 frame in an awkward position six times does completely blow monkey ass. OH!...that damn jack....I butt jacked that POS with a few pinchy vice grips. The X frame couldn't move with those things in place....ha ha!

I was gonna say... experimenting with some automotive applications is great. Powertrain stuff can be very expensive just for the parts, and if ya do it wrong you could cause much more damage than just having someone with the knowledge and proper tools ahead of time do it for you. In a t case, some rebuild shops can't get it right...and sometimes differentials need case spreaders just to get the third member into the housing for installation.

I know you want to do it yourself brother, but the pressures and tolerances and velocities are critical in most situations so they must be set right or you're just going to tear a bunch of shit up.

Well that's why I was trying to look it up. I can do stuff, but even easy stuff takes me forever, so if it is something complicated where I'll need two experts to hold my hand the entire time, that's usually the point where I start shying away.
