Default Roof and hail damage question

I was up on the roof fixing some trim and inspected the shingles after the last set of hail. No holes, or "hammer" spots, but I did find a lot of the sand from the shingles in the gutters.
    Is this considered hail damage?

No, global granule loss isn't considered to be hail damage. The shingles are basically wear items and granules are expected to be displaced over time. However, if you have specific impact marks where granules have been removed in a circular fashion that exposes the bitumen layer (tar), then that could qualify as hail related damage. Basically circles that expose the black part of the shingle, that aren't blisters.

ETA, you can have both issues at the same time. If you'd like to post some photos of things you're curious about I'd be glad to give you some input. Really can't tell the full story without being there though.

Figured things might be calming down since the last storms... my preferrred place booked thru oct, no bookings after that looking at spring >.< So hunt continues since I dont think my roof can wait thru the winter snows with as many shingles as I'm down.

Agree. 90% of the roofs I inspect for Insurance companies are cases where the adjuster denied a claim, but the homeowner, usually being pushed by a roofing contractor, won't accept that. In half of those, it is because they have some loss of the granules, or their neighbor got a new roof. There are certainly cases where the adjuster is wrong, but they are not common.

My new roof was six days old when we got some golf ball sized hail.

Beat the heck out of my truck but didn’t hurt the new roof.

I’m guessing the roof being as new as it was hadn’t fully flattened out (if that makes sense) so it absorbed the blows.

It was crazy loud in the house though.

My neighbors obviously didn’t fare as well. Pretty sure every house within a four mile radius is getting a new roof. Sounds like a Mexican war zone with all of the Spanish being spoken and the air nailers going off every day.

I have golfball sized (and bigger) holes THROUGH my carport decking and insurance says it's not hail damage... ummm... what? lol. They are saying they won't cover it cause one little corner of the carport plywood has a small spot of mold/decay so they are claiming that we didn't take care of the roof so therefore it's not blah blah blah... insurance, I still say it's a scam.

Just taking what you said at face value, that does not sound right. I'd certainly pursue that if I were you. While I would not advise hiring a Public Adjuster, you can go DORA, Division of Insurance and file a complaint: https://www.colorado.gov/pacific/dor...sion-insurance

Through the shingles and the decking?

ETA: even if the decking is rotted from continuous exposure to moisture (which by itself is specifically excluded), if hail physically damaged the decking by punching holes through it, I would say that should still be covered. Mark has the right idea with filling a DOI complaint. DOI complaints must be addressed by the carrier, at the risk of losing their license to do business in the state. DOI complaints are not toothless like calling the BBB.

What kind of siding and what kind of damage? Only thing I've ever done for A/C is to put in to have it combed.
