Default Places to shoot near Castle Rock?

(I also posted this in the hometown section on AR15.com)

Hi, first post here. I live in the Castle Rock area (Castle pines village, specifically) and have been shooting at the Family shooting center in Cherry Creek for a while now. I've been looking for an alternative for a while also, mostly because I want to do things at my pace, and also because the Cherry Creek range has been hell during hunting season. I've been looking at driving into Pike National Forest through Sedalia on 67. I've done some googleing and found that most of the well known sites are either on the opposite side of the forest, or are way down south by Colorado Springs. I'm looking for a good site to shoot at, the closer to where I'm going in the better. Are there any good spots around there?

    Thanks.

Join the Ben Lomond Gun Club. It's out past Kiowa a ways, then south on CR105, I think it is. Between 83 and Ramah. Really nice facility, and I've never had a problem having a whole range to myself all day. www.blgc.org I live in Parker, and it's a 1-hour drive for me.

It's a drive, and might be pricey to you, but the freedom and safety of the place is worth every penny to me. No yahoos, and no trash. 11 separate bermed ranges, two are 100 yards, others are all sizes. High-power rifle range with target lines from 100 to 600 yards. Cowboy action shooting, cowboy b/p lead only range out to 500 yards, .22 silhouettes, shotgun range, porta-johns, clubhouse (new one on the way), picnic area, RV hookups.

I had heard of the BLGC before, and it looks pretty promising. Thanks for the info.

Still looking for any places to shoot in the forest, though.

    Unhappy Nothing around here!

Yep, very frustrating with all the "open space" that no one can use in Douglas County! I am down in Larkspur and have not been able to find anything around here (been looking for years).

Myself and a few neighbors’ just joined:

They are not as big as B.L but do allow Class 3 and you do not need to be an NRA member (required by B.L.)

It is about the same distance as to B.L. as lead valley.

They are new and still building out but do have several private ranges open as well as a 50Y and 100Y - working on a 500Y range.

I got handed a flyer for that range at a gunshow a while back, but I lost the flyer and couldn't remember the name for the life of me. Thanks! And yeah, it is pretty frustrating that there's tons of open space that I can't use.

Do you have to be a member to shoot at Ben Lomond?

A member, guest of a member, or at an open shooting event.

BLGC is far from expensive for a permium range. 100 yrd covered range for sighting in, and 100 to 600 yard outdoor range with benches, 11 berms, three are usable for .223 rifle and down, all are usable for pistol. Blackpowder range and clays range. Permanent grounds keeper lives on site, and a house is used for shooting events. Theres even camping allowed out there.

The NRA membership is for insurance purposes.

Ya, I'm a member and was on the USPSA shooting club board until the USAF decided to exile me to MD...

I'll second SA. BLGC is a heck of a good deal since there is no charge for the facilities, just dues and work bond. Some clubs have range charges. It is also open every day. I've sometimes taken a mental health day from work and loaded up a car of guns and ammo for a great day.
