So, I now have two different sets. I have some metal STG-58 ones and some plastic penguin ones. Both are nice. I'm partial to the feel of the metal ones but I do see where the plastic ones might be a bit more functional.

Perhaps if I want a little winter project I will pick up a set of the Magpul MOE rifle handguards and see if I can make them fit.

With enough work almost anything can be made to fit.

Ray, I've had a little luck in the past with the wal-mart spray-on truck bed liner stuff on the crappy metal handguards. I still have a set of STG HG's I may slap a little liner on for S&G.

BTW, Jerry, How much work would it be to fit an M16 A4 rail to an L1A1?

Never tried that one. DSA offers a rail front but it is $$$ and the 1 gen I played with was heavy. Some years ago a friend had built a "Tactical" Fal with the rails and bipod along with the fully adjustable rear stock. After all was said and done I think it was close to 14lbs. Two ways to go depending on what one wants to mount. DSA makes a free float tube that would take the MOE L2 sections and not be too heavy. Or if all one wants is a light/laser the L2 sections will mount on the side of std metric HG's.
