Well, went out to the San Luis valley yesterday- did a little calling. Was cold as you know what right at sunrise- Called in a yote but the batteries died in the Ecaller right before he showed up. He hung up in some thick trees and didnt get a shot. Moved on and hit another setup and managed to call this cat. Hit it at 20yards with a 34grn HP from the .223. Bout 20mins latter my partner nailed a nice fat dog 400yrds out with his .22-250. Made for a few nice hours of hunting.

just for the record- I'm still leaning towards having a coyote hunt on my mini-ranch, but I think I may have found a dog to replace T-Rex...

he's only 4 months old at this point- we think he's a Rhodesian Ridgeback... (distantly related to Mastiffs)

but he's got the right attitude, and I've taken him on walks with my .22 handgun, with >zero< adverse reaction to .22 shorts... time to move up to .22LR and beyond as part of his training... also walking him around the borders of the property- plus get him to NOT freak around the horses... but there's promise...

You have lots of coyotes down there in Penrose Charger? We're headed down that way this weekend.

Are tags needed to hunt coyotes? Ive never hunted them but there are so many around where I live. Quite a few folks around me have had their dogs and cats snatched up from these bastards and this concerns me. Im always worried about letting my dogs out as I have seen coyotes out back. So.. If I were to hunt them on my property for this reason, would it be legal without a tag

I thought property owners could shoot yotes without a license as a means of controlling these pests.

Of course, it's always smart to have a small game tag to avoid questions and issues later.
