FWIW, from what I read a .22LR is a tad light but would get the job done in close range, a .223 or 22-250 is durn near ideal, and a .308 might tear up the hide but could be just fine with the right bullet.

    Run what you brung.
I've seen some speculating that .17 HMR or .22 WMR would do the job... (the .22LR is too low power, IMHO)
the .223 is a great choice... but I don't own one (yet)... so the 7.62x39 would have to do... but I'd have to call them in closer..

I would think that would reach just fine.

Just wondering if this thread will actually lead to a hunt! Seems like there is interest, just need a rancher with a problem to solve. When I get time I might wander down south of town but that may be a bit. Work is swamping me. (Grateful for that...)

Well, went out to the San Luis valley yesterday- did a little calling. Was cold as you know what right at sunrise- Called in a yote but the batteries died in the Ecaller right before he showed up. He hung up in some thick trees and didnt get a shot. Moved on and hit another setup and managed to call this cat. Hit it at 20yards with a 34grn HP from the .223. Bout 20mins latter my partner nailed a nice fat dog 400yrds out with his .22-250. Made for a few nice hours of hunting.
