Sunday Coyotes

Are tags needed to hunt coyotes? Ive never hunted them but there are so many around where I live. Quite a few folks around me have had their dogs and cats snatched up from these bastards and this concerns me. Im always worried about letting my dogs out as I have seen coyotes out back. So.. If I were to hunt them on my property for this reason, would it be legal without a tag

I thought property owners could shoot yotes without a license as a means of controlling these pests.

Of course, it's always smart to have a small game tag to avoid questions and issues later.

Ok thanks for the input. Ill look into it with co department of wildlife before i do anything stupid. But hell, if my dog was about to get eaten, i wouldnt hesitate to exercise my finger

For many years, I hunted all that wheat fields east of town, over 3000 acres.I shot many coyotes out of that area. About 2 years ago the city of Erie annexed all of that and made it no hunting. Why? Who knows. They can't support what they got. I talked to the city and the Police Department. No one wanted to give me permission to keep hunting. So I stopped, It wasn't a month after I stopped hunting it that the first lady got bit.
Not long after that the DOW called me and asked me if I would continue to hunt out there . They would see if they could get me a "special" permit from the city. The City even declined their course of action. So it's not the DOW's fault they tried but their hands are tied by the city's.
Now it seems like an every day deal out there. Mark my word...There WILL be a kid bit walking out to the High School in the future. I would suggest you go to City hall and talk to them about it. You can get in trouble for discharge of a firearm in city limits. Other then that your kind of SOL.

Thanks Gander. Ill got to city hall this week and ill let u know if they grant me permission to hunt. Now im not sure if this will even be considered as my property is annexed into Erie. I got very unlucky since the guy next to me is not annexed. Oh well, but it suck to hear about these coyote attacks on humans. Seems like there were a few last fall and becoming more of an issue.

In order to hunt yotes in Colorado, you need a small game licence AND a furbearers permit, the combined cost of both is $42.

You do not need tags to hunt yotes, and there is no bag limit or season end. It is open year round.
