Default Shortening a Savage MK II FV barrel?

It's my understanding that high quality .22 barrels are machined so the bore is tightest right at the muzzle, and that this is critical to accuracy.

I'm putting a MKII together for my daughter, and I'd like to cut the barrel back from 21" to 16". Does anyone know if Savage actually does machine their barrels this way? Am I going to ruin the accuracy by chopping it down?

BTW, I have one of these I use as my trainer. It's shoots just under 1 moa with Eley Target.

I have no idea if the barrels are machined that way or not, but my FV in a Boyd's Thumbhole Varmint stock shoots sub-moa with Eley as well.

If you have calipers, you could measure the ID of your FV, then see if you can find someone with a FV-SR and measure that? But if it were me, thats a little too risky with getting the sharp caliper jaws in the barrel and you risk scratching it up.

I'm in the process of doing this to one of my Savage Mk II's.

Once I get it finished up, I will post up pictures and details of the process.

Not sure if you went ahead with this, but I had an fv and bought a tacticool stock and had the barrel shortened to 16.5", DIPinc bottom metal and trigger guard, picatinny rail, and it shot great with cci sv.
Constantly hit one inch spinner at 114 yards.
