Default Rem 700 Action availability / My new rifle build.

OK, so I've decided to build up a nice precision rifle. Through tons of reading here and on Sniper's Hide I've come to the conclusion that in the hands of a capable gunsmith (which I have located), that the stock 700 action will suit my needs for significantly less $$ than a custom action.

Brownell's has some blued ones in stock, but I am hoping to find a Stainless unit for my build.

My question is, is there any other sources around that sell the action only? I don't really care to throw in another $200 for the rest of the rifle that I'm not going to use as I'm going to put it in an AICS chassis and already have a Shilen Trigger, and a pair of Krieger Barrels coming. (planning on having the smith spin up 2 barrels so I have a spare ready to go when the time comes).

If anybody has a good source that you don't mind sharing, please point the way. I'm looking to order/buy right away.

Might try Mile High. Got my last action from them.

OK, that's good, I'm planning on stopping in there today on my way home from work anyway to check on the AICS.

    Thanks for the info.

EDIT: Crap, no dice, just called them and they said they don't sell them anymore.

    Try brownells.

And also check pawn shops for complete rifles. Throw away what you dont want.

Hoser is right. I have had good luck buying a complete rifle and selling the used take off barrel, stock and bottom metal.

Keep in mind you'll spend $250 or so to have a R700 action trued. Maybe a "tactical" bolt knob installed for $75-100 if so desired.

Brownells has blued ones in stock, but no stainless, but I guess it's not the end of the world to just put Molyresin or Cerakote it, which I'd probably end up doing anyway. Never really thought of the pawn shop angle but that's a good Idea

I guess I never thought the stock barrel and furniture was worth much but I suppose if I bought it at the right price I could recoup the extra pretty easy.

Yeah deffinately planning on the price to have it trued up and a good bolt/knob put in/on it. But realistically from what I've been reading on the hide, it's not unheard of to have to have the custom actions tweaked a bit as well. So I figure if I can get a 700 for the right price, it's still going to save me money in the long haul and I'm not giving up much if it's done right.

Overall thanks for the advice guys, There's a ton of decisions to be made yet, and I'll be crunching numbers all evening tonight hahaha.

Picked up the AICS 2.0 for it on the way home today at Mile High. And I think I might have found my scope too. Was going to go S&B or NF but they talked me into looking at the new Vortex Razor HD and I'm REALLY impressed. And they're giving a free Spuhr mount with them. That's a big chunk of cabbage for a freebee.

There's are few companies out there that offer blueprinted 700 actions.
